More about the Tarn:

Some background information about the Tarn: Tarn is a department of 5,758 km2 in the Midi-Pyrénées region in the southwest of France, named after the Tarn River. It was formed in 1790 of the three dioceses of Albi, Castres and Lavaur, belonging to the province of Languedoc.

A great place to start when describing the allure of the Tarn department in the south west of France is in its stunning red-brick capital, Albi.

This is a beautiful place to spend a couple of days, with its most iconic structure, the glorious Cathédrale Sainte-Cécile, dominating its centre and skyline.
